Troubleshooting

If a request succeeds but a record doesn’t change the way you expected, check what Shape actually received.

See what Shape received

Shape saves the request body of every incoming Add Records and Update Record Information call to the record’s Activity tab. To view it:

  1. Open the record in Shape.
  2. Click the Activity tab.
  3. In Search activity, type Open Api POST for Add Records calls, or Payload Response for Update Record Information calls.
  4. Find the entry for the time of your request. It’s posted by System and tagged General, followed by the request body.

Anyone with access to the record and its Activity tab can see these entries. Only the request body is shown, never your API key. Compare it with what your integration meant to send. Most problems show up here: a misspelled field name, a value in the wrong format, or a field missing entirely.

No entry in the Activity tab?

Only requests Shape accepted are logged. If there’s no entry, the request was rejected, so check the status code and message your integration received. See Status Codes.

The value sent didn’t match one of the field’s options, so the field was cleared. Send the value exactly as it appears in Shape. See “Dropdown fields” on Add Records or Update Record Information.

Still stuck?

Contact Shape Support with the record ID, the endpoint you called, the time of the request, and the full response you got back. Leave your API key out of the message.
